A MotionMail alternative for your email countdown timers

In short

MotionMail fits if you want labels that switch to each recipient's language or a deadline passed in the URL, and it's listed in Mailchimp's integrations directory. Kauntodaun fits better if you want an unbranded GIF with no signup, or per-recipient evergreen timers for $7 a month, while on MotionMail they start on its $60 plan.

The Kauntodaun team wrote this page, so we'd like you to pick us. That's why every MotionMail figure comes from its site and help center, read on October 1, 2026, and there's a whole section on what MotionMail does better than we do.

    How to move from MotionMail to Kauntodaun

    1. Make a list. Note the scheduled campaigns and flows that use a MotionMail timer. Emails that already went out can't be changed.

    2. Check the parameters on each URL. A timer with no parameters moves to a fixed-date timer. One with CusID and Hr moves to our evergreen timer: the Hr duration is set when you create the timer, and CusID becomes ?rid= with your ESP's merge tag. One with Rep=24 moves to a daily recurring timer. For endDateTime we have no equivalent: keep it on MotionMail or create a fixed-date timer per campaign.

    3. Recreate the timer. Same date and time zone, or same duration. Copy the design and the expired message too.

    4. Copy the code. The HTML tab is for an HTML or code block; the URL tab, for an image block.

    5. Swap the image. In each email, find the <img> tag whose src points to MotionMail and put in the Kauntodaun URL, or replace the whole block with our HTML. In a flow, repeat it for every email.

    6. Add your ESP's merge tag if you want a deadline per person (Starter plan):

      • Mailchimp: ?rid=*|UNIQID|*
      • Klaviyo: ?rid={{ person.KlaviyoID }}
      • HubSpot: ?rid={{ contact.hs_object_id }} (its docs don't say whether it's replaced inside the HTML module; test it)
      • Mailjet: ?rid={{mj:contact.ID}}
      • ActiveCampaign: ?rid=%SUBSCRIBERID%

      Other platforms are on the evergreen countdown timer page.

    7. Test before sending. In your ESP's preview the merge tag usually arrives unreplaced; the engine ignores it and you'll see the full duration. Send yourself a test email, open it, wait a few minutes and open it again. With a per-person deadline, the second open should show less time.

    8. Don't close MotionMail yet. Emails already sent keep loading the GIF from MotionMail. Keep the account until those timers expire.

    Step-by-step instructions for each platform are in our Mailchimp, Mailjet and ActiveCampaign guides.

    How we checked

    We read MotionMail's homepage, where its plans are listed, and seven articles in its help center on October 1, 2026. The included and not-included marks for each plan come from the HTML. We didn't create a MotionMail account or test its timers from the inside. Kauntodaun's figures come from our plan and engine documentation.

    We review this page every three months. MotionMail also appears next to six other tools in our comparison of free email countdown timers.

    Common questions

    Does MotionMail brand its free plan?

    Yes. Its plan table marks "Branding Removed" as not included on the free plan, which gives 20,000 views a month. Removing it takes the Bootstrap plan, at $10 a month for 100,000 views.

    Does MotionMail have evergreen timers?

    Yes, with a timer that starts when the email is opened. According to its help center (an article from June 2024), it's on the Startup, Enterprise and VIP plans, not Free or Bootstrap. Startup costs $60 a month for 700,000 views.

    Does Kauntodaun switch label language per recipient?

    No. Each timer has fixed labels, written in whatever language you like. MotionMail translates labels to each recipient's language on its paid plans.

    Can I pass the deadline in the URL like on MotionMail?

    Not on Kauntodaun. MotionMail allows it on every plan with the endDateTime parameter, after you turn off its protection against third parties reusing your timer. We store each person's start at their first open (Starter plan).

    Will emails I already sent with MotionMail keep working if I switch?

    Those emails load the image from its servers and can't be edited. Keep your MotionMail account until those timers expire.

    Does Kauntodaun work in Mailchimp?

    Yes, with a Code block or an image block. For a deadline per person, add ?rid=*|UNIQID|* to the GIF URL (Starter plan). Our Mailchimp guide walks through it.
