A CountdownMail alternative for your email countdown timers

In short

CountdownMail has the most complete free plan of the tools we compared: unlimited views, evergreen timers, an API, custom fonts and two years of analytics, with its badge under the timer. Kauntodaun fits better if you want an unbranded GIF with no signup up to 25,000 impressions per timer, or 200,000 unbranded impressions for $7 a month.

The Kauntodaun team wrote this page, so we'd like you to pick us. That's why every CountdownMail figure comes from its homepage and pricing page, read on October 1, 2026. And the section on what it does better than we do is a long one.

    Where CountdownMail beats Kauntodaun

If the badge doesn't bother you, its free plan does more than ours. Specifically:

    Where Kauntodaun fits better

How to move from CountdownMail to Kauntodaun

    1. Make a list. Note the scheduled campaigns and flows that use a CountdownMail timer. Emails that already went out can't be changed.

    2. Check which timer type you use. A global date timer moves straight to a fixed-date timer. An evergreen timer moves to our evergreen with the same duration. A Dynamic timer, with the date in the URL, has no equivalent: keep it on CountdownMail or create a fixed-date timer per campaign.

    3. Recreate the timer. Same date and time zone, or same duration. Copy the design and the expired message too.

    4. Copy the code. The HTML tab is for an HTML block; the URL tab, for an image block. In Klaviyo, use the Klaviyo tab.

    5. Swap the image. In each email, find the <img> tag whose src points to CountdownMail and put in the Kauntodaun URL, or replace the whole block with our HTML. In a flow, repeat it for every email.

    6. Add your ESP's merge tag if you want a deadline per person (Starter plan):

      • Klaviyo: ?rid={{ person.KlaviyoID }}
      • Mailchimp: ?rid=*|UNIQID|*
      • HubSpot: ?rid={{ contact.hs_object_id }} (its docs don't say whether it's replaced inside the HTML module; test it)
      • Shopify Email: ?rid={{ customer.id }} (not yet confirmed inside an image src; test it)
      • ActiveCampaign: ?rid=%SUBSCRIBERID%

Other platforms are on the evergreen countdown timer page.

    7. Test before sending. In your ESP's preview the merge tag usually arrives unreplaced; the engine ignores it and you'll see the full duration. Send yourself a test email, open it, wait a few minutes and open it again. With a per-person deadline, the second open should show less time.

    8. Think about emails already sent. They keep loading the GIF from CountdownMail. If you downgrade to its free plan, views are unlimited, but timers carry its badge.

For step-by-step instructions on each platform, see our Klaviyo, Mailchimp and Shopify Email guides.

    How we checked

We read CountdownMail's pricing page, homepage and generator on October 1, 2026. The features of each plan come from the included and not-included marks in its table, read from the HTML, and the prices from Paddle's public price API for a US customer. We didn't create a CountdownMail account or test its timers from the inside. Kauntodaun's figures come from our plan and engine documentation.

We review this page every three months. CountdownMail also appears next to six other tools in our comparison of free email countdown timers.

    Common questions

Does CountdownMail's free plan carry branding?

Yes. Its generator says a small "Powered by CountdownMail" badge appears under the timer on the free plan. Removing it takes the Starter plan, at $7 a month for 100,000 views.

What does CountdownMail do for free that Kauntodaun doesn't?

Quite a lot: an API, custom fonts, timers that take the deadline from the URL, an image on expiry, an option to hide the timer in Apple Mail, team permissions, two years of analytics and per-recipient evergreen timers. In exchange, the timer carries its badge.

Do I need to sign up to use Kauntodaun?

No. You copy the code with no account and no email address. On CountdownMail you can design a timer without an account, but you have to sign up to copy the code.

Does Kauntodaun have anything like CountdownMail's Dynamic timer?

No. CountdownMail can take each recipient's deadline from the URL. Kauntodaun only stores each person's start at their first open (Starter plan). For deadlines that come from your store or CRM, CountdownMail is the better fit.

Will emails I already sent with CountdownMail keep working if I switch?

Those emails load the image from its servers and can't be edited. Its pricing page says you can downgrade to the free plan at any time; that plan has no view limit, but timers carry its badge.

What does going over the limit cost?

On CountdownMail's Starter, $0.07 per thousand extra views, which is $7 per 100,000. On Kauntodaun's Starter, $2.50 per 100,000. Either way the timer keeps running.
